35 Million Dollar Car Collection Found In Abandoned Barn

“A recently retired New York man wanted to use his retirement funds wisely, he and his wife decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal.

They found a perfect and out-of-the-way farm at a decent price. The modest farm had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs.

The estate was being sold to pay back taxes. There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. No one wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn’t complimentary to the property anyway… (basically an eyesore) so, no one made an offer on the place.

The New York couple bought it as is, paying just over half of the property’s worth; moved in, and set about to access the barn… curiosity was killing him.

So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple of grinders… and cut thru the welds.

Amazing… The total value of all exotic vehicles… just over 35 Million US dollars in rare vintage cars!

The man and his wife had full title to a complete lot of vintage exotic cars.

They’re having a great retirement!”

Ok, that’s what the email I received said anyway. Truth or hoax you be the judge. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

This is a great story, glad to hear they were able to keep the cars!

This is ancient, and untrue. The owner was a car dealer that kept for posterity the more interesting cars he came across in his career:

You know, they either got really lucky, or this was a really good scheme to cover up many expensive car thefts and make it look like clean money… but i’m just speculating.

I always wonder who the propaganda-ists who write the right wing Bush bullshit that hits my inbox everyday. These are the guys who make shit up with no fact checking because they have an agenda to fulfill.

This story is the same, this writer came up with as if it’s his own or from a good source while any person who has been on the internet for more then 2 years (and an auto enthusiast) knows this old old old story that has been refuted many times.

Check your facts dumb ass, it’s called Google when working with the internet. You search and when you see conflicting facts something is most unlikely true, you simply dig deeper.

This is what is the worst about the internet.

Actually, YOU are a prime example of what is worst about the internet.

First, you blast people online in a manner that you most certainly wouldn't do in person. You would get your rear handed to you if you spoke like that to people in real life. You need to grow up.

Second, you also seem to be one of those that insist on dragging politics into any discussion on the planet. I have a friend that does that. Nobody returns his calls. Nobody wants to hang out with him. Nobody wants to be around him.

Having a political opinion is great. Everyone should have one. But taking it to the extreme and acting like a conspiracy douche-bag wins you the Jackass of the Year Award and nothing else.

The motorcycle story and the jeep story was told to me back in High School. And I seem to remember the antique cars in a barn story too from those days.

I was graduated High School in 1970.

So these kinds of stories preceded the Internet by many years. The only difference is now they have pictures.

Luck is what the couple had! I actually envy them for discovering and owning an antique car collection in a place they have just bought. Their hearts were surely jumping out of their chests at that time. Well, mine would probably be scattering into pieces! Whether true or not, I’m still indulging myself in the story, and I’m loving it!

just looking at this makes me think of so many different awensers to it but either way theres no way in hell all these cars were purchased legally, i watched a movie once i think it was called driver and this guy had a list of about 100 cars to steal all pimped out old school cars…. makes me think could this be the story the movie was based on? and why would they be locked in a barn? could it be connected to some sort of gang from back in the day that didnt want thier enemys getting to them whatever the case the new oweners would be very happy

Title search show they were cars “rescued” from war criminals or “collected” during the war from displaced people. Hell, no gas there were a lot of abandoned cars setting around that had to be hauled somewhere, why not to a big ‘ol shed in the middle of nowhere?

You may have heard a version of this story a couple of years ago that went like this: An American couple bought a house in Portuguese wine country. On the property was a large, locked building. Upon entering the building, the couple discovered hundreds of classic cars in varying states of repair. German journalist Wolfgang Blaube set out to learn more about the legend. He travelled to Portugal in 2009 with his camera, and here’s the real story: There was in fact a large building filled with hundreds of classic cars, but the owner was a Portuguese collector who had amassed his collection in the 1970s after the Carnation Revolution. Many Portuguese collectors were stashing their cars in Spain, or letting them go for bargain prices. In a labor of love for old cars, Antonio Ferreira de Almeida seized every opportunity offered — cars from every manufacturer, every country and year made, and in every condition. By the end of the 1970s and before he was 30 years old, António owned some 100 cars, and by the mid-1980s he had more than 300. When his buying binge ebbed around 1996, almost 400 old cars were in his possession, around a quarter of those in good or excellent condition.

This story is an urban myth dating back to 2007, the cars belong to a car collector who is still alive and still owns the cars.

Ture or hoax, there is no denying some of these cars have been sitting in here for years collecting dust. It truly sparks the imagination. Every now and then some hiker comes across and old, nearly buried railroad spur, follows it into the woods to find an old steam locomotive. I like to keep th dream and hope alive, myself.
